With German engineering, Storz & Bickel bring us The Crafty Vaporizer.
Storz & Bickel have also manufactured The Volcano and The Plenty vaporizers and are known for the high quality products when it comes to vaporizers for dry herbs.
So lets get right to the review.
Reviewing The Crafty Vaporizer
It has almost a grilled, vented feel to it which is optimal for keeping the device cool while in use, as it can get quite hot inside but the outside still feels cool and only ever gets warm.
The Crafty is powered by an internal battery which is rechargeable. It takes around 2 hours for the battery to be fully recharged. You will get around 40-45 minute use from a full recharged battery – so the battery life itself is very good and reliable.
Another good point worth noting is the battery can be charged while in use, compared to other vapes out there which you cannot use while being charged.
The connection to the vaporizer is a micro-usb which is pretty much universal and that also means you can power it up while in the car, PC, wall charger or any other USB device.
The Crafty has an auto shut-off feature. Which is quite common amongst vaporizers and is a useful feature because it conserves the battery power.
The auto shut off kicks in after 1 minute of inactivity which can be a good or a bad thing. You can keep the auto shut off from happening by pressing the button. It is even smart enough, that if you do take a hit, it will reset the auto shut off.
When The Crafty is about to shut off, it will vibrate which alerts you that it is shutting off. This is a good feature as the light warning may not be seen in a brighter environment.
The lid of The Crafty is very well made and feels like a quality product. Once you open the device, its time to load!
Loading The Crafty with the herb. Firstly, it is very cool that the herb doesn’t need to be ground up too fine as long as it is ground to a decent level.
The Crafty comes with a grinder and another plastic loading tool – this makes it extremely easy to load The Crafty with your weed without creating a mess and spilling/wasting the weed.
Once loaded, you hold down the power button for two seconds. It will vibrate to let you know it is on and the heating process has begun.
The default heat setting that it comes with is 356°F / 180°C – which is a perfect setting for sativa and decent enough for indica herbs as explained on the home page.
By double tapping The Crafty, you enable the Boost Mode. The boost mode heats the cannabis to 383°F / 195°C.
The other very cool thing is these settings can be altered using the smart phone app.
Crafty’s smart phone app is also very user friendly and gives you good flexibility in controlling the temperature. Once set, The Crafty will remember the setting.
Using the app, you also have control over the brightness of the LED lights – not really a functional feature, but a nice-to-have feature none the less.
The app will also go so far as to tell you the temperature inside the chamber in real time.
Once The Crafty has heated up, you are ready to start using it. Just expose the mouth piece and take a hit.
The first hit will, as expected, will be light. The next hit will feel pretty amazing!
You will need to take a deep hit to get a good vapour.
For a pocket vaporizer, the vape itself feels smooth, doesn’t feel too hot or burn your throat at the default temperature setting.
The quality of the vape is very high, even better than some desktop vaporizers!
From a fully packed chamber, you are likely to get around 10-20 nice sized hits before the need to refill.
If you don’t intend to vape a whole chambers’ worth, Storz & Bickel include a nifty little filler pad to put on top of your weed so the chamber is filled up. Crafty recommend not vaping on a half filled chamber and this filler unit proves good usability.
Crafty provide a brush to clean the chamber and the screen. This works very well in keeping The Crafty clean after some use of the vaporizer.
The mouth piece / lid will also require some cleaning to keep it in good condition. This can be done using the brush.
The overall conclusion of The Crafty is that it is an amazing device.
As mentioned above, the quality of the vapour you get from The Crafty is premium. It is better than some desktop vaporizers.
The build quality is excellent, which cannot be faulted.
The usability is also very good and user friendly. The smart phone app is clever, intuitive and gives you complete control of The Crafty.
Storz & Bickel also give you a 2 year warranty which further proves the build quality.
Overall, it is a very good investment.
